Are you wondering if you are required to give your employees time off to vote?
A.R.S. (Arizona Revised Statute) 16-402 allows a person who is entitled to vote in a general election to be absent from work for the purpose of voting for 3 consecutive hours either at the beginning or the end of the workday and the opening or closing of the polls.
The employee cannot be penalized nor wages deducted for such absence.
Application for such absence must be made by the employee prior to election day, and the employer may specify the hours during which the employee may be absent.
And that’s not up for debate.
