Ever conduct an interview?

Of course you have.

FAQ’s

Maybe you have unknowingly broken the law by asking certain illegal questions.

According to a recent national CareerBuilder online survey conducted by Harris Poll, at least one third of employers were not aware that the following subjects were not legal to discuss when interviewing a potential employee:

  • political affiliation
  • age
  • disability
  • marital status
  • number of or plans to have/not have children
  • smoking/drinking
  • financial status/debt
  • race/ethnicity
  • arrest records (but asking about convictions is allowed)
  • reason for military discharge
  • citizenship/national origin (but asking if a potential employee is legally eligible to work in the U.S. is allowed)

You may have been on the receiving end of some of those questions in the past.  I know I have.

Now you know.
